Lots of great answers so far. I tried doing WW on my own with my wife(who is a lifetime member) and ended up quitting every time. I finally decided to officially join and am down 16 lbs in 7 weeks. I’m not sure what it is about joining (the weigh in?) but this is the only time it has worked for me.
I think what makes it different is that you don’t have to eat a special diet to do it. You can eat all of your usual ‘comfort’ foods, you just need to get the portions under control which it teaches you how to do. The article below explains how to do it without joining if you so choose…

Weight Watchers is a lifestyle not a diet. Weight watchers really is how you should eat. It gives you a way to eat whatever you want but also to not over eat. It teaches you portion control as well. Weight watchers can be used no matter how you like to eat because it’s all about having a balanced diet. You can have cake, you can have pizza, you can eat out, BUT you probably shouldn’t all in the same day or eat a whole cake! You can make weight watchers work for you whether you are the type of person who wants to eat all day long on healthy foods or if you, like me, like to eat twice a day but not super healthy meals. I definitely think you should give it a shot!

With Weight Watchers, you (re) learn portion sizes, focus on eating filling foods that are healthy (whole grains, veggies, fruit, lot fat, etc), and learn to eat until you are satisfied instead of crammed full. You also track everything you eat, which helps you to be aware of what you are eating and to be accountable for it. the meetings/wiegh ins also help with accountability and with support. I’ve lost 5 dress sizes on it so far, and have three more to go! Find out more info at http://www.weightwatchers.ca or .com

weight watchers is different in that you have meetings and group weigh ins as well as a support type group. Its the same as many plans in that it cost money to join.
Body for life, Southbeach, Atkins, Caveman etc are all free but rely on you to be your motivator and monitor. I’ve had great sucess with Atkins or low carbing, but you may find success in another program that fits your lifestyle and tastes. I do recommend forming a group of friends with the same goal and doing it together. Its fun and motivating

I was on weight watchers, and I went from 165 to 131 in about 5 months, and I kept it off until I got pregnant. I plan on doing it again after I deliver this baby. I didn’t join the weight watchers group though. I did it on my own. You can go online and find the weight watchers points quiz to find out how many daily points you are allowed. Then you can find a weight watchers store in your area (or go to amazon.com) to get a points calculator so you have that for when you are grocery shopping. It is pretty simple to follow. You also need to follow a good exercise program as well. It isn’t the only diet plan out there of course, but it worked better for me than others that I tried. Good Luck!

Weight Watcher’s is not really that worth it. If you really want a good diet or more information… ask me and I will tell you…if you wish! I am in a winderful diet right now and all I have to do is wait a week to see results!
